Hemorrhoids

Everyone suffers from hemorrhoids, which arise from elastic blood vessels that are similar to cushions – the hemorrhoidal blood vessels. By expanding and contracting, these vessels function to close the anal canal. Under normal conditions, hemorrhoids are not felt. We refer to actual hemorrhoidal pain when hemorrhoids become noticeable as a result of abnormal enlargement followed by weaker or stronger pain. Studies have shown that 70% of all adults suffer from hemorrhoids at some time or sporadically during the course of their lives. These can appear externally as well as internally. The latter are subdivided into four degrees of severity. External hemorrhoids as well as internal hemorrhoids of severity grades 1 and 2 can be treated effectively with ointments or suppositories.
